Generative AI has proven to enhance the productivity, creativity, and effectiveness of social impact teams in serving their communities. According to reports from recipients of funding from Google.org, AI has helped them reach their goals in significantly less time and at reduced costs.

Despite the potential benefits, a recent survey by Google.org revealed that while four out of five nonprofits see the relevance of generative AI in their work, nearly half of them are not currently utilizing the technology due to obstacles such as lack of tools, awareness, training, and funding.

In response to this, Google.org has launched the Google.org Accelerator: Generative AI, a six-month program designed to support nonprofits in developing impactful applications of generative AI. The inaugural cohort consists of 21 organizations dedicated to various areas including climate, economic opportunity, health, education, and crisis response. Along with technical training, workshops, mentors, and pro bono support from an AI coach, Google.org is granting over $20 million in funding to these projects.

Furthermore, through the Google.org Fellowship, teams of Googlers will collaborate full-time with three selected nonprofits—Tarjimly, Benefits Data Trust, and mRelief—for up to six months to assist them in developing their proposed generative AI tools.

Discover some of the innovative projects by the selected organizations below and explore other Google accelerator programs.
