# Titanium, MagnaCut, and Carbon Fiber, Oh My! An Exquisite Review of the ZT0545 Pocket Knife

Zero Tolerance, known as Kershaw’s premium label since the early 2000s, initially manufactured hardcore folders that were in line with the trend. However, in recent years, the brand has struggled to compete with premium overseas brands like Reate and WE Knives. After releasing several knives that failed to make an impact and rehashing old designs, Zero Tolerance finally unveiled a knife that resonated with the market, the ZT0545.

The ZT0545 is a sleek and practical knife that functions remarkably well as an everyday carry (EDC) tool. Despite its quiet release, it has become one of the best folders on the market in 2023 and is hailed as the best EDC knife ever produced by Zero Tolerance.

## Zero Tolerance ZT0545 Knife Review

The ZT0545 is a titanium framelock flipper with carbon fiber on the show side and stonewashed titanium on the lock side. It features external milling on the lock side to reduce its weight and enhance grip. Additionally, it boasts a discreet deep-carry steel clip covered in a durable black coating. The blade is crafted from Larrin Thomas-engineered and Crucible-produced MagnaCut, known for its exceptional hardness, toughness, and corrosion resistance.

The blade has a clip point and a high flat grind that starts near the spine. Measuring at 0.09 inches, the blade stock leverages the high hardness of MagnaCut. The show side is constructed of void-free carbon fiber, providing both comfort and a pleasing aesthetic. Despite its size, the knife is notably lightweight and thin.

The ZT0545 represents a significant departure from Zero Tolerance’s previous designs, which included a range of knives that failed to resonate with contemporary knife users. This knife aligns itself comfortably with other exceptional blades on the market, such as the Benchmade Bugout and TRM Neutron 2.

### Drawbacks

Despite its remarkable features, the ZT0545 has two notable drawbacks. First, its flipping action, while not subpar, falls short compared to the flawless action of knives from competing brands. Second, the price, at $272, seems somewhat inflated compared to knives of similar quality. Although the ZT0545 is equipped with superior MagnaCut steel, the price difference may be difficult for some users to justify.

### Conclusion

The ZT0545 has proven to be a highly sought-after knife, despite being sold out in numerous outlets, signifying Zero Tolerance’s return to producing exceptional knives. While there are minor drawbacks, such as its flipping action and pricing, these should not overshadow the fact that the ZT0545 is an outstanding knife that anyone can use and appreciate.
