Qualcomm And Razer Might Be Making A Steam Deck Rival

Qualcomm and accessory manufacturer Razer are reportedly collaborating on a new handheld gaming console that could rival devices like the upcoming Valve Steam Deck and Nintendo Switch, according to leaked information.

The leaked slides, obtained by VideoCardz.com, suggest a handheld device based on a yet-to-be-officially-announced Qualcomm Snapdragon G3x processor.

The slides also mention a Snapdragon G3x Handheld Developer Kit that could be made available to developers for creating content based on the Qualcomm elite gaming platform. The Snapdragon G3X is described as “a new platform designed for innovation in handheld gaming.”

According to the report, the device is designed for next-gen mobile gaming with game streaming and access to Xbox Cloud gaming. The slides depict a handheld with a 120Hz HDR OLED display and a large 6,000 mAh battery for extended gaming on the go.

Additional features mentioned in the slides include a 1080p webcam, a USB-C port for charging and accessories, the ability to connect to a display through USB-C, and support for Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.2, and mmWave 5G connectivity.

The device resembles many dedicated smartphone controllers seen in recent years but is equipped with its own chipset, eliminating the need for a smartphone to be added. The slide further describes the device as “the place to play all of your games.”

There’s no information regarding the potential release of the device, but with Qualcomm’s annual Snapdragon Tech Summit happening this week, we may receive imminent news regarding its authenticity.

With the Steam Deck’s delay to early next year, this could be an opportune time for a prospective handheld rival to emerge. Are you intrigued by this development? Let us know @trustedreviews on Twitter.
