In the world of Japanese smartphones, the ZTE Libero Flip stands out as a budget-friendly foldable phone that is unlikely to be available outside of Japan. The device is a strong competitor to the Galaxy Z Flip5 and has a key advantage – it comes at a fraction of the cost. With a list price of JPY 63,000 ($420 converted), pre-orders for the ZTE Libero Flip are available at a discounted price of JPY 39,800 ($265), making it the most affordable foldable phone on the market so far.
The ZTE Libero Flip features a 6.9-inch foldable OLED display with FHD+ resolution and a secondary 1.43-inch round cover screen with 466 x 466px resolution. The secondary screen, called Sub Display, allows for tasks such as taking calls, controlling media playback, and acting as a viewfinder for the main camera on the back.
The phone boasts a 50MP primary camera, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 16MP front-facing camera housed in a punch-hole cutout on the 6.9-inch display.
Powered by a Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 chipset with 6GB RAM and 128GB storage, the ZTE Libero Flip uses Android 13 with ZTE UI on top. It offers foldable-specific features that allow users to distribute menu items across both sides of the folding screen.
The device comes with a 4,310mAh battery that supports 33W fast charging using Quick Charge 4+ and PD3.0 standards. It also has an IP42 water and dust rating. It is available in White, Gold, and Blue, and offers a variety of back covers to suit different styles. The ZTE Libero Flip is currently available for pre-order from Japanese carrier Y! Mobile, with open sales scheduled to start on February 29.
