Sony has announced that it is laying off approximately 900 employees in its PlayStation division. This move will impact 8% of the division’s global workforce as Sony joins the ranks of companies making significant cuts in recent times. Additionally, Sony will be shutting down its London Studio in the U.K.
Jim Ryan, the chief of PlayStation, stated, “After careful deliberation and numerous discussions among leadership over several months, it has become evident that changes are necessary to sustain business growth and development.” He added, “We needed to reassess our business comprehensively, focus on long-term sustainability, and enhance our commitment to providing the best experiences for our community.”
In a separate announcement, Hermen Hulst, head of PlayStation Studios, mentioned that Insomniac Games, Naughty Dog, Guerrilla, and Firesprite studios will be affected by the layoffs. The impact will be felt by employees across the Americas, Japan, and EMEA and APAC regions.
