If you dislike time-consuming layering breaks, this rain jacket is perfect for you. And if you care about the environment (which is highly recommended), you’ll love the Outdoor Research Aspire II even more. Recently updated for 2024, this classic rain jacket just keeps improving and now stands as the most eco-friendly option in OR’s lineup.
When it comes to outdoor adventures, especially in the ever-changing weather of the Pacific Northwest, staying comfortable can be a challenge. Living in this region myself, I understand the struggle of temperature regulation on the move.
Having recently tested Outdoor Research’s Aspire II GORE-TEX Jacket with its TorsoFlo ventilation system, I found it to be a game-changer during unpredictable weather. The jacket excelled in venting and performance despite the shift towards eco-friendliness.
After thorough testing in the Pacific Northwest, I can confidently say that the Aspire II is a worthwhile investment. Removing PFAS from its 50-denier 100% recycled polyester-facing fabric has not only made it one of the most environmentally friendly jackets from OR but also a staple in my wardrobe.
In essence: I put OR’s Aspire II GORE-TEX Paclite rain jacket to the test in challenging conditions, where rain turned to snow quickly. The TorsoFlo venting system proved outstanding in regulating temperature and keeping me dry.

Outdoor Research Aspire II Jacket: Review
Experience Breathable Design With TorsoFlo Ventilation

The TorsoFlo ventilation system stands out as the most notable feature of the Aspire II, noticeable as soon as you put it on. This innovative design allows for easy temperature regulation, giving you the freedom to adjust airflow quickly. Whether it’s transforming into a makeshift poncho or simply venting a small section, the double zippers offer versatility.
While most rain jackets rely on pit zips for ventilation, the full-length TorsoFlo zippers provide unmatched heat dissipation. Testing the Aspire II during hikes revealed its effectiveness in managing temperature, preventing that clammy feeling that often accompanies physical activity. Adjusting the temperature with the side zips was seamless, offering an easy transition to stay comfortable during varying conditions.
Despite the two-layer Paclite shell lacking the additional interior fabric found in three-layer shells for enhanced breathability, the TorsoFlo zips compensate well. The jacket’s ability to regulate heat effectively makes it a practical choice for various outdoor activities.
