Residing in an 850-square-foot apartment in Brooklyn with my husband and child has its challenges. While I may face some judgment on my lifestyle choices, I generally find contentment in our living situation. But there’s one particular struggle: managing the space in our living room.
I dream of having clutter-free counters and clear pathways, especially with our elderly cat always underfoot. However, reality paints a different picture. With a sofa, coffee table, small dining area, and a TV, our living room serves as the hub for family gatherings, movie nights, friend hangouts, and countless rounds of UNO, particularly on weekends.
On weekdays, when my husband is at work and my son is at school, the room transforms into a makeshift home office and private workout space. When my 8-year-old returns from school, he usually tackles homework and art projects at the dining table, as his bedroom desk is often buried under Lego pieces, library books, and miscellaneous items.
The room buzzes with activity, and it’s a tough task for a 10-by-13-foot space to manage everything. Despite the chaos, I certainly don’t subscribe to a “hoarder” aesthetic.
This is where my organizational savior comes in: five neatly arranged baskets tucked under the couch.
These durable woven baskets have been a staple for years. Featuring a smooth surface and handles on each end, they effortlessly slide in and out of tight spaces without snagging or wearing down.
