YouTube today announced a new feature on its short-form video platform, Shorts, that allows users to create videos using AI tools. The feature, called Dream Screen, allows users to create AI-generated video and image backgrounds by simply typing what they want to see.
For example, YouTube CEO Neil Mohan explained this morning at the company’s “Made on YouTube” live event that when you type something crazy like “panda drinking coffee,” a video image appears on your screen. did.
The company also suggested other examples, such as underwater castles and images you can imagine in your dreams, such as dragons or a sci-fi moonrise.

Mohan said he believes this technology will allow more people to publish their work on YouTube without feeling like they need to deeply understand YouTube analytics or a full production studio.
The shorts platform now averages over 70 billion views per day, up from 50 billion views in January. And YouTube expects that number to grow even more with AI.
“At YouTube, we want to make it easy for everyone to feel like they can create, and we believe generative AI can help make that possible,” Mohan said.
This feature is rolling out to some creators and is expected to roll out early next year.
In the future, YouTube says the tool will allow creators to rethink their videos and input ideas for editing or remixing the content into something new.
