Apple has unveiled iOS 17.3 and iPadOS 17.3 for compatible devices. The updates are readily available to all users. No staggered release like in Google’s case.
The latest iOS update includes the new Stolen Device Protection feature, which provides an added layer of security in case someone steals your device and has your passcode.
Stolen Device Protection requires Face ID or Touch ID to access saved passwords. When changing sensitive settings like Apple ID password or device passcode, a security delay is activated, except when the iPhone is at familiar locations. In such cases, Face ID or Touch ID is required, followed by an hour-long wait, and then another successful biometric authentication.
This feature seems like a no-brainer addition and is long overdue. It will be interesting to see if Google and Android device manufacturers follow suit with something similar on their end.
In addition, the update introduces a new wallpaper and allows Apple Music users to collaborate on playlists with friends, including adding emoji reactions to any track. The AirPlay feature now supports streaming content directly to the TV in select hotels, and crash detection has been improved as well.
