Sony has revealed that Apple Music will be launching on PS5 consoles today, allowing gamers to stream their favorite music while playing next-generation games.
This marks the complete integration of Apple Music, giving users the ability to listen to music “before, during, and after” gaming sessions.
The full Apple Music library, consisting of 90 million songs, 4K videos, and numerous personalized playlists, will be available to subscribers.
One of the most appealing features for PS5 owners is the ability to play background music that complements the game being played, including dynamic recommendations tailored to the current game.
Thanks to the seamless integration, users can press the PS button during gameplay and select the Music Function card from the Control Centre.
In a blog post announcing the update, Sony states: “Apple Music subscribers can find recommendations that match the game they are currently playing, or choose from a playlist in their library or other Apple Music-curated playlists for gaming.”
Sony is also excited about the integration of music videos. The company highlights that users can view videos in full screen, and if they return to gameplay or perform other actions on the console, the audio will continue playing. Similarly, if they return to the video, it will resume from the same point.
The Apple Music app can be downloaded from the Media section on PS5. Detailed instructions can be found here from Sony. Notably, an active Apple Music subscription is required to access the library, and unfortunately, this feature is exclusive to PS5, excluding PS4 users.
It’s uncertain whether Apple Music’s spatial audio and lossless audio features are available within the PS5 app, and further clarification may be required.
Sony has also brought the Apple TV app to the PS5, ensuring that the company’s streaming services are prominently featured on the next-gen console.
