It’s not all sunshine and roses. I immediately liked the feel and typing experience of the ROG Scope II, but it required a few adjustments. After more than 30 years of typing on a full-sized keyboard, there’s definitely a learning curve. The delete key cannot be touch typed and the 10 key single space zero is being adjusted. It’s a bit of a pain, but once you practice the form factor you’ll be fine.
And when it comes to ASUS products with RGB, there’s a big rainbow elephant in the room known as Armory Crate. ASUS has had great products for years, but they’ve also given us the software equivalent of syphilis with this monster. Fortunately, they seem to be listening (at least lately). You do not need to install the full version of Armory Crate for Scope II. Because there’s a scaled-down version called Armory Crate Gear that only offers customization. device.
Even better is the fact that the ROG Scope II 96 has six onboard profiles that can be customized and saved to your device within the Armory Crate software. You can then uninstall the software and take advantage of all six profiles that you can select by pressing FN+1 to 6. However, to be honest, Armory Crate Gear isn’t even close to the bloatware level of the full version, and it puts very little stress on your system. You don’t need to create an account to use the software, but it works in the background even when it’s not open. My personal opinion is that you can leave all six profiles installed, configure them as needed, and then uninstall them.
