The launch of Cyberpunk 2077 is shaping up to be one of the most disastrous in video game history. Though not quite at the level of the infamous E.T. game crash, CD Projekt Red has mishandled what was one of the most highly anticipated games in recent memory.
After recently announcing that the Xbox Series X and PS5 enhancements won’t be available until 2022, the developer has now indicated through its roadmap that no updates will come until early next year.
All fixes, updates, improvements, and the promised free DLC won’t arrive until next year, the company confirmed. This update was not an official announcement, but rather a quick change to the “our commitment” site compared to the previous version, as reported by Polygon.
Previously, the site had assured users that all these would be delivered before the end of the year. However, the game’s latest update, Patch 1.3 in August, which introduced some free DLC, will be the final update for 2021.
In less than convincing fashion, the company stated, “We are planning to release the free, next-gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 in 2022. We’re aiming for the first quarter of the year and we’ll reveal more when we have more to share.”
The company also added that they remain committed to releasing free DLC for the game, following the model of The Witcher 3, but acknowledged that their focus is on the most critical fixes and updates. They have already released the first DLC pack with Patch 1.3 and plan to release more in the future.
This news deals another blow to fans who have stuck with the futuristic open-world title since its turbulent launch in late 2020. While the delay of the Xbox Series X and PS5 versions is significant, the absence of the DLC promised in early 2021 is also disappointing.
On the bright side, there’s always Keanu, right?
Additionally, alongside the delay for Cyberpunk 2077’s next-gen version, CD Projekt Red announced that a similar update for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has also been postponed to next year.
