DistroKid, an independent music distribution service, has now launched its Android app, several months after the release of its iOS app.
The newly released Android app offers similar features to its iOS counterpart, which has already been installed over half a million times. Artists can conveniently upload their tracks directly from their smartphones, receive payment alerts, access analytics from platforms like Spotify and Apple Music, and tweak metadata for their songs.
The company has been quite active this year with acquisitions and product launches. In April, DistroKid introduced its new mastering tool, “Mixea.” Priced at $99 annually, the tool provides functionalities such as preparing tracks for radio, optimizing bass, and uploading high-quality audio.
In September, DistroKid revealed its acquisition of Bandzoogle, a musician-founded website-building tool established by Chris Vinson in 2003. This tool enables artists to directly sell music, tickets, and merchandise to their fans. At the time of acquisition, Bandzoogle was powering over 60,000 sites with a total inventory sales of $100 million.
In October, the company enabled artists to upload their music to ByteDance’s TikTok Music service. As part of this initiative, DistroKid artists will have the opportunity to feature their songs on the CapCut video editing software.
DistroKid was founded by Philip “Pud” Kaplan in 2013 and underwent its most recent fundraising round in 2021, receiving an investment from leading software investor Insight Partners, valuing the company at $1.3 billion.
