Key Insights

  • OnePlus and OPPO are joining forces with Google to incorporate Gemini Ultra AI features into their smartphones.
  • Gemini Ultra is Google’s latest potent AI model, available in different sizes to suit various devices.
  • OnePlus is embarking on another partnership with Google for Cloud AI-based functions, elevating future devices’ capabilities.

You can witness the increasing importance of AI technology with major players like Apple and Google collaborating to advance AI capabilities. Android device manufacturers have been at the forefront of integrating AI into their products. Recently, OnePlus and OPPO have revealed their alliance with Google to introduce Gemini Ultra-enhanced AI features on their devices. OnePlus also introduced an AI-driven photo eraser tool for its smartphones.

Gemini Ultra stands as Google’s most robust AI model yet. It comprises three variants: Gemini Nano, the smallest version running on phones like the Pixel 8 Pro; Gemini Pro, utilized by Samsung in its Galaxy S24 series; and the flagship Gemini Ultra. While details about this collaboration are scarce, OnePlus and OPPO have disclosed that their initial AI functionalities, powered by Gemini Ultra, will launch “later this year.”

The joint statement from OnePlus and OPPO hasn’t specified the availability timeline or supported devices for these new features. Yet, it is anticipated that Gemini Ultra will be exclusive to flagship and premium devices from OnePlus and OPPO such as OnePlus 12, 12R, OPPO Find X7 Ultra, and potentially the upcoming OnePlus Open 2.

OnePlus also shared plans to collaborate with Google to introduce Cloud AI-based features on their devices. This means forthcoming OnePlus smartphones will leverage AI for tasks such as news article summaries, audio summarization, and more, aligning them with other top-tier smartphones in the market. Further details on this association will be disclosed later this year.
