Today, we are thrilled to unveil the inauguration of our offices in San Salvador. This marks a significant stride as we advance our dedication to supporting the nation’s digital transformation, encompassing the revamping of government services and fostering economic progress.
Since August 2023, following the announcement of the partnership agreement with El Salvador, our focus has been on aiding the country in modernizing its procedures and services for its populace, along with providing training to diverse government bodies. Alongside disclosing the launch of our new office, we seek to showcase the advancements realized through this collaboration in digital government, healthcare, and education:
- Digital government. Collaborating closely with the government, we have assisted in establishing streamlined digital ecosystems for import-export, healthcare, and sanitary registration. Our future endeavors involve continuing to bolster the government in crafting platforms that promote seamless interaction among institutions and elevate citizen services through digitalization.
- Healthcare. As an initial crucial step, we have imparted cloud technology training to various government agencies. Presently, we are aiding the government in constructing its telemedicine platform using state-of-the-art technologies like artificial intelligence to automate processes and broaden accessibility to healthcare services in the nation.
- Education. Expanding on our collaboration with El Salvador’s Ministry of Education since 2020, we take pride in supporting a long-term initiative that positions technology at the core of enhancing teaching and learning within the public education system. Commencing with providing Google Workspace for Education accounts to all students in public schools and training educators through the Ministry of Education’s National Institute for Teacher Training (Instituto Nacional de Formación Docente del Ministerio de Educación), we are propelling this program by delivering advanced Google Workspace for Education Plus tools imbued with AI for personalized learning experiences and introducing Chromebooks for fourth-grade students. The subsequent phase involves empowering pedagogical leaders to amplify the digital competencies of teachers and students across El Salvador.
According to a study funded by Google, digital technologies like cloud computing and AI could potentially generate a $3.4 trillion annual economic impact in the major and emerging economies of Latin America, Eastern Europe, Africa, and the Middle East by 2030. Our collaboration with the Government of El Salvador epitomizes the realization of this potential.
Fostering Entrepreneurship in El Salvador
In addition to our new office establishment and ongoing digital transformation initiatives, Google.org, the philanthropic arm of Google, will donate $200,000 USD to civil society organizations in the region to furnish local entrepreneurs with digital skills training, fostering the growth of indigenous businesses.
Innovation and technology have benefitted millions globally. It is the concerted efforts of governments, the private sector, and civil society that translate these benefits into economic growth and stability, benefiting all communities and individuals.
