According to Goldman Sachs, Krafton has big plans for its popular mobile title PUBG, including incremental updates to sustain and grow the game’s success.
The South Korean company intends to expand its PUBG franchise by launching games across different genres, platforms, and play modes, as well as implementing a major graphics overhaul using Unreal Engine 5, as per Goldman Sachs.
Using a customized version of Unreal Engine 4, the current version of PUBG is set to undergo a significant visual upgrade with the adoption of Unreal Engine 5, which is expected to enhance realism and immersion while optimizing performance costs, industry experts say.
In a statement to TechCrunch, Krafton confirmed that it is exploring various approaches, including utilizing Unreal Engine 5, to ensure the sustainable growth of PUBG: Battlegrounds IP.
PUBG has experienced remarkable growth in recent years, captivating millions of players globally with its intense and unpredictable battle royale gameplay set across vast maps. Goldman Sachs projects a positive outlook for PUBG’s PC and mobile apps, as well as BGMI, the India-specific battle royale title launched in 2021.
Goldman Sachs also highlighted the strong performance of BGMI, maintaining the top position in gross rankings, with expectations of continued robust revenues. The investment firm forecasts significant revenue growth for PUBG, reflecting the belief in the full return of BGMI and Krafton’s increased investment in the local market, including esports events and localized promotions.
