NordVPN is introducing a new global eSIM service called Saily, allowing users to access eSIMs regardless of their carrier, provided their smartphones support the feature.
The service is currently in beta, and early access sign-ups are available. The official launch of the app is scheduled for later this year.
According to Vykintas Maknickas, Head of product strategy at Nord Security, Saily will offer users the ability to avoid using public Wi-Fi networks that they are not comfortable with. Customers will have the option to choose from “hundreds of countries and dozens of plans” to access mobile data deals.
eSIM cards are primarily used by travelers and remote workers to reduce roaming charges. Nord Security also notes that some individuals require cost-effective data packages in their own country after a prepaid plan runs out.
The new Saily app will be in competition with Airalo, a service that has been downloaded over 5 million times on Google Play and App Store. Airalo provides virtual SIM cards for various regions of the world with competitive data package prices.
Additionally, users will have the convenience of not needing to purchase a physical SIM card in a new country with a different language and currency.
