Transforming unused phone boxes into something new has become quite popular, whether it’s for a library or an urban garden. However, it’s always exciting to see these old British communication landmarks get upgraded with the latest technology.
Nvidia has done just that by converting the traditional British phone box into a cutting-edge cloud gaming setup, branding it the ‘world’s smallest gaming arcade’.
Powered by the Nvidia GeForce Now cloud gaming service and 5G mobile data connectivity, visitors in Manchester will be able to enjoy over a thousand top PC games on the go.
This gaming booth will be located in Manchester at Exchange Square on Wednesday, October 27 for a pop-up event, allowing local families to come and play during the half-term break.
The purpose of this initiative is to promote positive gaming spaces. According to Nvidia, many people were found to be playing games at inappropriate times, such as during family dinners, work hours, or even in the toilet. In a survey of 1,000 people, they even found players who gamed during their own wedding.
Nvidia states that the ‘world’s smallest gaming arcade’ aims to help gamers get their gaming fix at the right times, keeping them out of trouble at work or at home.
An Nvidia spokesperson explained, “Gaming is a hugely popular and positive pastime, and The World’s Smallest Gaming Arcade means that people can get their daily gaming fix when they’re not at home and without impacting things like work and social life. GeForce Now is making high-quality gaming accessible to all via the cloud, while ray tracing and DLSS are no longer exclusive to those with a GPU and gaming rig.”
GeForce Now’s goal is to bring top PC titles to almost any connected display by using high-end RTX-based processing and graphics hardware in the cloud. Gamers can access their existing game libraries from stores like Steam and Epic.
The service recently became available on Xbox Series X through a beta of the Edge platform and offers access to popular titles like New World, Apex Legends, Hitman 3, and the soon-to-be-released Guardians of the Galaxy.
