Amid the devastating war in Ukraine, Google has dedicated more than $45 million in cash and $7 million in kind to aid humanitarian relief efforts for the war-torn country and those fleeing the conflict. In addition, we have utilized our products to assist those affected by the war, such as safeguarding against cyber attacks and combating misinformation.
In my capacity, I have collaborated with numerous startup founders who have imparted valuable insights into how entrepreneurship drives economic growth and innovation. This is why we are deeply committed to supporting the Ukrainian startup ecosystem. In March 2022, we introduced the Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund, which has furnished $5 million in equity-free cash awards to 58 recipients. Startups assisted by the Ukraine Support Fund have garnered $15.8 million in follow-on funding, achieved 100% revenue growth, and significantly expanded their workforce despite the adversities they have encountered. Many, such as Skyworker.ai and Mindly, are leveraging AI to drive economic opportunities, and some have been acknowledged by global experts — for instance, Zeely’s founders were all featured in Forbes Europe’s 30 under 30 list.
Today, we are announcing a second Google for Startups Ukraine Support Fund, totaling $10 million, to disburse equity-free cash awards throughout 2024 and 2025. Similar to the initial fund, selected startups based in Ukraine will be unveiled on an ongoing basis and will receive up to $100,000 in non-dilutive funding, along with continuous Google mentorship, product support, and up to $300,000 in Cloud credits. This hands-on support aims to assist Ukrainian entrepreneurs in sustaining and expanding their businesses, fortifying their community, and establishing a groundwork for post-war economic recovery. Applications will open later this year.
In 2022, we were honored to receive the first-ever “Peace Prize” award introduced by President Zelenskyy for our efforts to aid the people of Ukraine. Since then, the war has taken on new dimensions, and we remain resolute in our dedication to upholding the merits of that award.
