Good news for Pokémon Go fans with iPhones – the game can now be played at 120 frames per second on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Players of Pokémon Go on the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max now have the option to switch to 120 frames per second while playing the game.
Reported by The Verge, the latest update 1.191.0 for Pokémon Go introduces an advanced settings feature, which includes the ability to unlock your device’s native refresh rate for a smoother gameplay experience. Previously, the game was limited to 30 frames per second on most iOS devices.
While a high refresh rate is not essential for enjoying the game, it can significantly improve the smoothness of camera movements and player interactions.
The iPhone 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max can support the higher frame rate due to the ProMotion feature, which allows the phone to adjust its refresh rate from 10Hz to 120Hz, based on the current activity.
Users of older iPhones also have the option to enable higher frame rates above 30fps manually, similar to the latest iPhone models. However, the performance may vary depending on the age of the device.
The reason for the lack of automatic activation of this feature, and the absence of mention by Niantic, is likely due to the additional battery consumption it causes, especially for an energy-intensive app like Pokémon Go.
For Android users, many devices are already capable of running Pokémon Go at a frame rate higher than 30fps. Like with older iPhones, the performance of the app at a higher frame rate may depend on the specific device.
