Traditionally, avid movie fans collect physical memorabilia like autographed posters to show their dedication. However, in recent years, there has been a shift towards digital collectibles as a new symbol of a fan’s devotion.
Really (formerly Moviebill), an AR platform offering digital collectible movie tickets and interactive experiences related to blockbuster films, has partnered with blockchain platform Avalanche to introduce “Fandime” NFTs. These NFTs provide a new way for movie studios to engage with audiences. Additionally, the company is expanding its AR collectible tickets to cinema partners in the Asia-Pacific region, including Japan, Korea, Australia, the Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore.
There are three ways to earn Fandime tokens: attending movie theaters and events, buying merchandise, and participating in Really’s AR experiences, such as weekly trivia, scavenger hunts, and a “Pop-a-Corn” game. Users can also purchase Fandime directly in the Really app, available on iOS and Android devices.
Each Fandime is assigned a unique Blockchain-based ID, minted on Avalanche’s blockchain network, and stored in a user’s Really account.
Users can redeem Fandime for digital rewards, movie-related AR content, exclusive opportunities, and AR trophies, as well as wearable face filters. The tokens can also be used in Really games, such as extending playtime for trivia and gaining extra lives and levels for the bucket toss game.
Amazon MGM Studios has launched a collection on Really, featuring movies like “American Fiction,” “The Boys in the Boat,” and “The Beekeeper.” Moviegoers can earn exclusive Fandime tokens by collecting all three AR tickets. The production company has also introduced an AR collectible for the psychological thriller “Saltburn.”

James Andrew Felts, Really AR founder and CEO, believes that the combination of Augmented Reality and blockchain technology positions them ahead of the game. He stated, “Augmented Reality brings an entirely new user interface to our interactions with digital. As we transition from 2D screens to 3D screens, our interactions with the digital world will become more tactile and personal. Blockchain unlocks the ability for a digital file to be truly yours, similar to a physical object in the real world.”
Next year, Really will expand the ways users can earn Fandime tokens and redeem rewards. For instance, users will be able to purchase movie tickets and merchandise via their Really account, receive discounts, and collect Fandime tokens when watching content at home.
In the long term, Really plans to create original AR content and expand into other industries such as travel, retail, and sports, offering brands the opportunity to reach audiences with 3D messages at scale.
Founded in 2017, Really garnered attention when it collaborated with Regal Cinemas to launch exclusive AR content for “Avengers: Infinity War.” To date, Regal customers have claimed over four million of Really’s AR collectibles across 200 wide-release films.
Originally focused on providing premium content to dedicated customers, Really’s technology now engages moviegoers with immersive experiences, driving them back to theaters at scale as AR/VR becomes mainstream.
