When the 2025 Ram 1500 pickup was revealed last year, it was generally well-received. The full-size truck has received numerous updates, including new tech features, a top-line Tungsten trim, and enhancements to its ride and handling.
However, one change caused quite a stir among fans of the brand. The new truck ditches its iconic Hemi V-8 engine.
After spending a day driving the 2025 Ram 1500 through Texas Hill Country, it’s easy to see why the move was made. Despite losing two cylinders, the new Hurricane straight-six engine proves to be a worthy replacement, offering power, responsiveness, reduced noise, and smoother operation.
Together with the other updates, the new engine transforms the truck into a compelling alternative that even loyal Ford, Chevrolet, and GMC owners should consider when shopping for a light-duty pickup.
In summary: As a competitive alternative to the dominant Ford and Chevy full-size trucks, Ram has had to work harder and deliver a little bit more with its 1500 pickup. And, it’s got a solid formula in place for the new 2025 model making its way to U.S. showrooms.
