When it comes to gear, spotting scopes occupy the buy-once-cry-once category. Considering this, most hunters are in need of a spotter that can perform well across a variety of applications, rather than excelling in just one area.
The Maven’s S.3A strikes a balance between being compact and large in the world of spotting scopes. It offers packability and good magnification, making it suitable for whitetail hunters who also take part in Western hunting, or for Western hunters who cannot carry full-size spotters. This spotting scope’s size and weight make it a versatile tool for hunters who need to scan a variety of terrains, from beanfields to the backcountry, in a single season.
The S series glass performs well during low-light conditions and can handle most hunting or shooting scenarios. Moreover, the removable eyepiece gives users the flexibility to adjust the magnification range according to their needs.
In summary: The Maven S.3A is ideal for hunters looking for a versatile spotting scope that can be used both from the truck to the backcountry.

Review of the Maven S.3A Spotting Scope
Testing the Maven S.3A 20-40x67mm
Throughout this winter, I conducted glassing activities at the range and in the field to test the optical quality of the S.3A. This included viewing targets and deer during low-light conditions. These sessions took place in large cutovers or fields, providing ample opportunities to observe various objects at long distances.
Controls
The controls on the Maven S.3A are smooth. The focus wheel turns with ease, although it may turn a bit too easily for some users’ preferences. The magnification wheel also operates smoothly, without any hindrance. Furthermore, the adjustable eyecup remains in place at different positions without collapsing, offering an excellent user experience.
The removable eyepiece adds to this spotting scope’s versatility, as it allows for a wider range of magnification. Additionally, the mechanism locks the eyepiece firmly in place without any play.
Optical Quality
The S series glass in the Maven S.3A justifies its price tag, providing crisp and detailed viewing. Although it slightly diminishes in low-light conditions, it still performs well. While some blurring may occur around the edges in low light or near-max magnification, it remains acceptable. The lens coatings and integrated sunshade contribute to distortion-free viewing, especially when observing the sun.
