In this ever-evolving landscape of cybersecurity threats, every minute can make a difference in detecting potential dangers. To stay ahead of hackers, we are enhancing Google Safe Browsing with real-time, privacy-focused URL protection for all Chrome users on desktop and iOS. Additionally, we are rolling out enhanced password protections on Chrome for iOS to further secure your online experience.
Real-Time Safeguarding with Safe Browsing
Safe Browsing currently shields over 5 billion devices globally from phishing attacks, malware, and unwanted software. With over 10 billion URLs and files scanned daily, the service issues more than 3 million warnings to users about potential threats.
Until now, the Standard protection mode of Safe Browsing used a locally stored list on your device to determine if a website or file was suspicious. However, this list was only updated every 30 to 60 minutes, whereas the average malicious site remains active for less than 10 minutes.
Now, the Standard protection mode for Chrome on desktop and iOS will leverage Google’s server-side database of known malicious sites in real time. If a site is deemed risky, you will receive a prompt with detailed information. By checking sites instantly, we anticipate a 25% increase in blocking phishing attempts.
