Many of us have experienced the sinking feeling of losing a phone. Despite my optimism, losing things is a familiar theme in my life. From favorite T-shirts to car keys, I’ve misplaced them all. So, it was no surprise when I realized I had dropped my iPhone 6 at Los Angeles International Airport and only understood my loss when I was already beyond the security checkpoint.
The ensuing three weeks were fraught with stress and expenses, all exacerbated by the unnecessary ordeal I had brought upon myself. Eventually, my phone resurfaced in LAX’s enigmatic lost and found section. However, not before I had to invest a substantial amount in a new phone, navigate the restoration of my two-factor authentication app, and come to terms with potentially losing precious photos and videos, some of which featured people I might not encounter again.
Even if you’re not prone to absentmindedness like me, there’s no foolproof guarantee that your phone won’t go missing, get damaged, or worse, get stolen. But, by investing a few minutes in implementing some simple precautions, you can prevent a minor inconvenience from turning into a major crisis.
Believe me, the effort is well worth it.
