# Spotify is testing a feature that uses AI to create playlists
Earlier this fall, Spotify was reported to be testing a new feature that allows users to create playlists using AI technology and prompts. The “AI playlists” feature has been spotted in testing, but Spotify has not shared details about the technology or a launch date.
The feature was showcased in a TikTok video by a user who stumbled upon it in the “Your Library” tab of the Spotify app. The new feature, labeled “AI playlists,” allows users to turn their ideas into playlists using AI and is currently only available in English.
Users can type a prompt into an AI chatbot-style box or choose from a list of suggested prompts to get started. Some example prompts include “focus at work with instrumental electronica,” “background café music,” and “explore niche genres like Witch House.”
After selecting a prompt, the AI chatbot processes the request and presents a sample playlist, which users can refine by removing songs. This new feature was initially discovered in October, but Spotify did not confirm its plans until now.
Spotify is downplaying user expectations and excitement about the AI playlists feature, emphasizing that it’s currently just a test. The company has been investing heavily in AI, including the launch of an AI DJ earlier this year and considering other AI applications, such as summarizing podcasts and creating audio ads, generating voiceovers for podcast ads, and using AI for music creation.
It remains to be seen when the new AI feature will be available to the public. If you have access to this feature, let us know how well it works.
