Yesterday, Samsung unveiled the Galaxy S24 phones, equipped with One UI 6.1. This new interface feature allows users to display their home screen wallpaper on the lock screen when the Always-On Display feature is active.
Insiders speaking to SamMobile have shared that this feature will be exclusive to the S24 series for the time being. This decision is based on the fact that older Galaxy devices have less energy-efficient displays, and enabling the feature would significantly impact battery life.
Although the Always-On Display has never been particularly battery-friendly, Samsung has assured that the panels on the Galaxy S24, Galaxy S24+, and Galaxy S24 Ultra are more power-efficient, and the impact on battery life is deemed acceptable.
The new feature removes the background of the image on the home screen, leaving only the foreground object displayed on the lock screen. This allows users to have their favorite person or character continuously on display.
