As I sat at the San Francisco airport in August 2022, preparing for a nine-month Fulbright research fellowship in the Philippines, a country with limited accessibility standards compared to the U.S., I couldn’t help but feel apprehensive.
Being an architect advocating for accessibility, my research focused on the accessibility of elementary schools, a task that required me to be able to navigate difficult terrains efficiently, a challenge I anticipated would be daunting.
However, amidst my worries, my EZ Lite Cruiser, a lightweight travel power wheelchair, provided me with a sense of relief. This chair proved to be a game-changer over the months, enabling me to access various places such as fitting into almost any car, boarding a motorboat, and exploring remote villages to engage with local communities.
This lightweight travel wheelchair can be lifted upstairs and conveniently folds to fit into most car trunks, despite being less comfortable.
