Android’s goal is to empower users to choose the devices that suit them best and ensure seamless connectivity across different brands.
At CES today, we’re introducing updates to enhance productivity across various devices such as phones, laptops, Bluetooth accessories, TVs, smart homes, and cars. These updates expand upon the improvements made to our ecosystem at last year’s CES.
A New Approach to File Sharing
The process of sharing pictures, files, and text between devices should be straightforward, swift, and convenient. In 2020, Nearby Share was introduced to simplify file sharing across devices. Samsung also offers a similar capability known as Quick Share, which is popular among its users.
In collaboration with Samsung, we are merging the best aspects of our sharing solutions into a unified cross-Android solution called Quick Share. By integrating these experiences, we have developed the best default, built-in option for peer-to-peer content sharing across all types of devices in the Android and Chromebook ecosystems. Furthermore, to streamline sharing between devices, we are collaborating with leading PC manufacturers like LG to extend Quick Share to Windows PCs as a pre-installed app.
This means that with a simple tap of the new Quick Share icon, you can view a list of available nearby devices. You have control over your privacy and can adjust your phone’s settings to determine who can discover your device and send files – whether it’s everyone, only your contacts, or just your own devices. Quick Share will begin rolling out to current Nearby Share enabled devices next month.
