The newly appointed CEO of Microsoft Gaming assures that there are no intentions to alienate PlayStation users after Microsoft’s acquisition of Activision Blizzard.
Phil Spencer, recently promoted from Head of Xbox, stated in an interview with Bloomberg that Activision Blizzard, now under Microsoft’s ownership, will continue to support the gaming communities on Sony’s platforms.
However, the specifics of this commitment remain unclear. Spencer’s comments echo the deliberate vagueness surrounding Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda in 2020.
Spencer told Bloomberg, “I’ll just say to players out there who are playing Activision Blizzard games on Sony’s platform: It’s not our intent to pull communities away from that platform and we remained committed to that.”
Bloomberg also reported that Microsoft plans to continue producing some of Activision’s games for PlayStation consoles, while keeping certain content exclusive to Xbox.
The announcement of Microsoft’s $69.7 billion acquisition has raised concerns among PlayStation gamers regarding the potential exclusivity of future titles like Call of Duty, Crash Bandicoot, Overwatch, and Diablo to Microsoft platforms, such as Xbox and PC, or platforms where Game Pass is available.
For many gamers who recently acquired a PS5, the idea of the next Call of Duty game not being available on their console was previously inconceivable.
While the battle royale version, Call of Duty: Warzone, is expected to remain available on all platforms, the fate of the successor to Vanguard seems uncertain. Microsoft had previously stated that “some” Bethesda games would be exclusive to its platforms, hinting at a potential pattern with future Activision Blizzard games.
