Xbox is expanding its Game Pass library by adding 76 classic games, enabling gamers to enjoy a wide range of nostalgic titles.
While both next-gen consoles are offering backwards compatibility to some extent, Xbox has gone a step further by allowing players to enjoy games from the Xbox 360 and original Xbox on the new Series X and Series S.
In celebration of the 20th anniversary of Xbox, Microsoft has updated the Game Pass catalogue with 76 additional titles in the backwards compatibility library. Some of the newly included games are Skate 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and Viva Piñata: Party Animals.
The games have been chosen based on fan suggestions, as the Xbox compatibility program leaders have highlighted the importance of positive feedback and requests for specific titles in preserving older games.
Approximately two years ago, Microsoft stated that there were no plans to add more Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the catalogue. However, in honor of Xbox’s 20th anniversary, the company has had a change of heart.
Fortunately, playing older games does not mean that gamers have to tolerate outdated graphics. All newly added original Xbox or Xbox 360 games will support Auto HDR, with the original Xbox games also receiving a resolution increase.
For users of Xbox One X or Series X, original games that have been added will see a 4x resolution increase. The Xbox Series S will receive a 3x increase, while the Xbox One and Xbox One S will have a smaller 2x resolution increase.
Out of the 76 new titles, 11 of them will receive an FPS boost, doubling the frame rate to 60fps. Some of the existing backwards compatible games, such as Fallout 3, Fallout: New Vegas, and the entire Gears of War franchise, will also benefit from this enhancement.
