Thomas Wang, the president of Redmi, has announced the introduction of a new series by the Xiaomi brand named Turbo. Positioned between the K and Note series, the Turbo series is dedicated to delivering exceptional performance. The first device in this lineup will be known as Redmi Turbo 3, potentially being a new iteration of the Redmi Note 13 Turbo.
In an extensive post and subsequent Q&A session on social media, Wang detailed the concept behind Turbo, emphasizing its role in revolutionizing the mid-range smartphone market.
It appears that while the Redmi K series will remain synonymous with flagship-level performance, the Redmi Turbo lineup will cater to the mid-range segment with a focus on speed and efficiency, while the Redmi Note series will emphasize camera capabilities.
The naming of the first device as Turbo 3 signifies its position as the third phone in the Redmi lineup, offering impressive performance at a competitive price point, albeit possibly compromising on some flagship features. Preceded by the Redmi Note 11T Pro and the Redmi Note 12 Turbo, it seems the Turbo 3 skips the Note 13 designation. There is speculation whether the device will also be released under the Poco F6 moniker, as Wang’s communication was primarily directed at a Chinese audience, where the Poco lineup is not available.
While this new series may add complexity to Xiaomi’s smartphone range, it provides clarity by avoiding the introduction of a new Redmi Note model. The Redmi Note 11 series saw an overwhelming 18 variants, while the 12 series was relatively restrained with just 13 variants that were largely similar.
